还有认真的同学问为啥是banks of the river，为啥用复数，简单说，这就是习惯用法，说这句话的时候，就是说河有两岸，我们在岸上走，然后怕你不明白，特意补充说了一句说我们在左岸。一般就说笼统的说banks of the river，那什么时候用单数呢，真有这种说法，就是说的特别清楚的时候，比如说，'We're on the south bank of the river.'（我们在河南岸。）'The café is on the left bank.'（咖啡馆在左岸。）

比较不容易理解或者产生疑惑的是这句：the village is on a river，刚开始读的时候，我都以为是不是写错了，啥村庄能建在河的上面呢？是指河的上游吗？真不是，就是指河的沿岸，村庄沿岸而建，就叫做on the river，那比如路边有个motel，英语就说the motel is on the road，汽车旅馆在路边，这种别理解错了就好了，也不用深究，英语在某些时候就是一个很糙的语言，别太较真。
